Media Studies

Media Studies is a truly contemporary subject which is relevant to all our pupils’ lives. The media saturates everything we do in the developed world in the 21st Century.  We give pupils the tools to analyse and critique the media, affording them the chance to see the ways in which the media pervades their lives.

We have a long established reputation for excellent pupil progress and attainment. Bryntirion Media Department has provided the spark that has ignited life-long interests in the media and culture industries for most of our students.

Many of them go on to study Media related courses at University level and have gone on to a range of careers in  the Media, such as: journalism, animation, game design, marketing, fashion and the television industry.

Our results are consistently some of the highest in the school and this year 100% of our students achieved A-D at A Level and 90% achieving their target grade at AS Level.

This is a dynamic specification that encourages students to become autonomous readers and producers of media texts.

At AS level you will analyse media forms through the study of advertising images, newspapers, magazine front covers, contemporary film extracts, television sequences, music videos, CD booklets, internet web pages.

You will be making your own media texts.  Currently students design their own CD booklet/package for a new or existing band and produce a front page, contents page and advert for a magazine.

At A Level you will study the popular music industry, TV industry and Film Industry through case studies such as Beyonce, The Inbetweeners, Gravity.
