Use of face coverings in schools – Message on behalf of Cwm Taf Morgannwg Health Board

All secondary schools in Bridgend have received the following message from Public Health Wales (CTM).

“We wrote to you previously regarding the reintroduction of face coverings as an additional precautionary measure in all secondary school settings. It was agreed that this measure would be reviewed regularly, to take into account the vaccine roll-out to 12-15 year olds and rates of covid19 transmission in the community.  A review, with representation from education from all three local Authorities, was undertaken today, 17th of November 2021.  In reviewing this measure it was noted that rates of covid19 transmission remain high in the 10-19 year old age band.

It was concluded, therefore, that the use of face coverings should be maintained across all secondary schools within CTM (Cwm Taf Morgannwg). This position will be reviewed again on Wednesday 1st December 2021, with consideration made for arrangements following the Christmas break.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you again for your continued assistance in implementing these control measures. Your work encouraging the use of face coverings makes a real difference to our efforts to control the spread of the virus.”

We therefore strongly encourage the use of face coverings in all internal communal areas of the school, including classrooms, until the Christmas break. Unless they are medically exempt, please ensure your child is equipped every day with a face covering (and a spare) for use at school until the end of the Autumn term.
