Transition/Pontio
Bryntirion has an excellent transition process which starts with an Open Evening held every October for Year 5 & 6 pupils. Open Evening brochures and other school information are given out inviting pupils to visit the school with their parents. This offers a first opportunity to tour the school visiting the various departments, viewing pupil's work and observe the exciting resources available at Bryntirion. The Open Evening is particularly beneficial for those pupils transferring to secondary education the following September.
‘Transition Day’ takes place at the end of June/beginning of July. All Year 6 pupils joining us in September are invited to spend the day. They will meet their form tutor and Head of Year and the other pupils who will be in their form/year group. They will follow a timetable for the day, again familiarising themselves with the school site, meeting staff and mixing within the Bryntirion Community. We also offer a Year 6 Parents Evening after ‘Transition Day’, a chance for parents/pupils to ask any last minute questions they may have before the children start in September.
Throughout the year pupils will also be invited to attend the school Christmas Fayre, the annual Cymanfa Ganu (an evening of song with all of the feeder school choirs), Mini Olympics for Year 6 and a preview performance of the school musical production staged in July. There are also More Able & Talented after school sessions for pupils nominated by the primary schools and sporting events organised by our P.E. department.
Year 6 pupils are also invited to enter an English Competition for our School Eisteddfod and the winners are invited to attend the Eisteddfod and receive their awards. This is followed by our Music Department visiting the junior/primary schools to stage an Eisteddfod performance featuring the best of day.
Bryntirion Comprehensive School has a Transition Plan which represents a joint agreement between the school and the feeder schools. This plan identifies priorities to drive standards forward across the cluster.
The Transition Plan allows staff to share information ensuring pupils have a safe and secure transfer to secondary school.
